Crafting the Frontend of a Cyber Risk Platform at KiteCyber

2025-08-12

This summer, I interned at KiteCyber as a Software Engineering Intern, where I focused on building the frontend for a cyber risk assessment platform and connecting it seamlessly to the backend. The project's goal was to help organizations identify vulnerabilities, understand potential impacts, and receive actionable mitigation guidance.

I designed and implemented the user interface using modern web technologies, ensuring that risk data could be input, visualized, and interpreted intuitively. A major part of my work involved integrating the frontend with the backend, built on FastAPI and PostgreSQL, so that the platform could reliably fetch risk assessments, submit user data, and display AI-generated summaries in real time.

One of the most rewarding aspects was connecting the generative AI outputs—risk summaries and mitigation suggestions—to the frontend in a way that felt natural and actionable to users. This required careful coordination with the backend APIs, attention to performance, and designing interfaces that clearly communicated complex cybersecurity concepts.

By the end of the internship, the platform was approved for integration into KiteCyber's main product, marking a successful delivery of a fully functional, user-friendly interface for the company's cyber risk tools. The experience sharpened my frontend engineering skills, deepened my understanding of API integration, and demonstrated the impact of well-designed interfaces in cybersecurity applications.
